"The Garden of Eden" is a mixed media animated short film that combines watercolor and gouache paintings with artificial intelligence techniques. The animation employs hand-painted watercolor images, capturing the richness and textures of natural scenes. Through the integration of artificial intelligence algorithms, the artwork is transformed into a dynamic and fluid animation, where colors blend and evolve in a captivating display. This innovative approach merges traditional artistic techniques with computational methods, showcasing the potential of combining art and technology. The result is an immersive experience that pushes the boundaries of storytelling and demonstrates the synergy between art and artificial intelligence in the realm of animation.

Technical Rider

  1. Artistic Medium: Watercolor and Gouache Paintings

    • Hand-painted watercolor images serve as the primary artistic medium for the animation.

    • Each frame is meticulously crafted using traditional watercolor techniques to capture the desired textures and colors.

  2. Digitalization and Scanning:

    • After the watercolor paintings are completed, they are scanned at a high resolution to preserve the intricate details and vibrant colors.

    • Professional-grade flatbed scanners or specialized scanning equipment are utilized for accurate reproduction.

  3. Digital Image Processing:

    • Scanned watercolor images are digitally processed to ensure optimal image quality and compatibility for animation.

    • This may involve color correction, adjusting levels, and enhancing contrast to achieve a consistent visual aesthetic for this Procreate is used on Ipad.

  4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration:

    • Artificial intelligence algorithms are employed to create dynamic and fluid animation sequences. For this work I used Deforum Stable Diffusion on Google Colab to generate the parameters.

    • These algorithms utilize the scanned watercolor images as source material and apply computational techniques to generate motion and transitions.

  5. Animation Software and Tools:

    • After Effects is used to sequence the animations and resulting images.

    • The software enables the integration of AI-generated animations with the original watercolor artwork.

    • Tools for timeline management, keyframing, and layering are utilized to ensure smooth transitions and desired visual effects.

    • After Effects is utilized to synchronize the music with the visual elements.

  6. Output and Rendering:

    • The final animation is rendered using Premiere looking for high-quality settings to maintain the integrity of the watercolor artistry and the fluidity of the animation.
